On the Church’s most recent birthday, Pentecost Sunday, a parish in Chicago celebrated with gusto. It was a liturgical production fit for a child’s fifth birthday party. Church Militant’s Kim Tisor reports on the abuses that took place during Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church in Iverness, Illinois.
Holy Family Catholic Church in the archdiocese of Chicago places the emphasis on celebration during the Holy Mass — with talented musicians, spirited dancing and visually fun theatrics.
That’s Terry Nelson-Johnson, a layman, who manifested bubbles and delivered the homily. Such innovations are flagrant liturgical abuses and have prompted concerned parishioners who know better to implore Cdl. Cupich for help.
It’s doubtful Cupich, who was once ranked the worst bishop in the United States, will come to their aid. After all, he’s more known for welcoming paganism during Mass, banning the Saint Michael prayer, and restricting the Traditional Latin Mass than he is for adhering to liturgical rubrics.
So for now, the festivities will continue at Holy Family — where anything goes.
Thankfully, there are priests in Chicago who remain committed to restoring and preserving the sacred, whenever possible.
Holy Family Catholic Church has its own Liturgical Arts Ministry. According to the church’s webpage, the ministry seeks to create transformative prayer and worship experiences with an appreciation for both the old and new.
