Faithful Catholics everywhere are celebrating Abp. Salvatore Cordileone’s recent pastoral move to ban pro-abort politician, Nancy Pelosi, from Holy Communion. But many are still asking, why did he take so long? After all, he’s been Pelosi’s archbishop for 10 years.
In tonight’s In-Depth Report, Church Militant’s Kim Tisor explores the possible reasons.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., speaker of the House: “This is about freedom, about freedom of women to have choice about the size and timing of their families. Not the business of people on the court or members of Congress.”
Nancy Pelosi has championed pro-abortion bills her entire 35 years as a California congresswoman while wearing her faith on her blood-stained sleeve.

Finally, San Francisco archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is barring Pelosi from Holy Communion. His announcement Friday dominated headlines. Faithful Catholics are jubilant yet perplexed over the timing.
Fr. James Altman, canceled priest: “He was supposed to do this 10 years ago. There are 10,000 babies that are murdered every Saturday — 10,000. You have no reason, no excuse on God’s green earth, and it is His earth, to not immediately, the minute you get out there, deny her Holy Communion — excommunicate her.”
Some claim the archbishop is merely jumping on the pro-life bandwagon ahead of the Supreme Court decision that will likely overturn Roe. But Cordileone denies the link.
Then there’s the possibility it’s a PR stunt to bury attorney Jeff Anderson’s recent press conference. Cordileone may have known Anderson planned to slam him for not releasing the names of child-molesting priests — something he promised to do in 2018.
Anderson also condemned the prelate for fighting California’s Child Victims Act, which gives sex abuse victims more time to take legal action against their perpetrators.
Jeff Anderson, attorney: “Archbishop Cordileone is one of the California bishops who are asking the Supreme Court to protect them.”
Church Militant requested input from Abp. Cordileone — to have him explain the timing of his otherwise commendable decision. But with our request ignored, all we can offer is the defense: Pelosi’s ratcheting rhetoric became too much.
Abp. Salvatore Cordileone: “But more recently, with her advocacy for codifying the Roe decision into federal law, it’s becoming more and more extreme and more and more aggressive.”
In his letter to the House speaker, Cordileone warned Pelosi of the grave evil she’s perpetrating and the danger to her own soul she’s risking — warnings she deserved publicly long before now.
Yesterday, Pelosi lamented on MSNBC, the people criticizing abortion’s legality are the same people who are against contraceptives, family planning and in vitro fertilization.
