Increasingly, society is becoming cashless. Right now, it’s normal for many Americans to pay their bills and buy products online — especially on Amazon.
But now, companies are pushing for different kinds of technology to hasten the cashless economy, and subdermal radio frequency identification (or “RFID”) chips are getting more attention.
A new company called “Walletmor” is advertising its new RFID chip, claiming it works with vendors around the world. Contactless payment using phones and cards is becoming the norm, especially since COVID made people hesitant about touching money or keypads.
For years already, most credit cards have had microchips, and people have been using Apple and Google Pay with their smartphones.
In January, the Federal Reserve released a discussion paper, mulling the possibility of developing an official U.S. cryptocurrency — the central bank digital currency (or “CBDC”).
