Under the guise of protecting voters, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Friday an immediate expansion of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ’s) unit on voting rights.

Attorney General Merrick Garland:  “Today I am announcing that within the next 30 days, we will double the division’s enforcement staff for protecting the right to vote.”

This comes as an election audit is underway in Maricopa County, Arizona, and leaders in other swing states are mulling similar actions.

In his 20-minute speech, Garland made clear Black Americans need special protection.

Garland: “Progress to protect voting rights, and especially for Black Americans and other people of color, has never been steady.”

He compared election reform bills to actions by the Ku Klux Klan.

Garland: “There has been a dramatic rise in legislative efforts that will make it harder for millions of citizens to cast a vote that counts.”

Former Trump strategist Steve Bannon pointed out the DOJ’s hypocrisy.

Bannon: “They never ever said they want to get involved and find out about voter fraud and find out about all this mess.”

The right for all citizens to vote is not in question. But there is an equally important need to protect citizens from illegal votes.
