Senator Rand Paul: “I’m in charge of oversight over your trillion-dollar agency, and I’m asking you how many [federal Paycheck Protection Program loans to Planned Parenthood] have been approved.”
Senator Rand Paul is producing must-see TV.
Paul, who is the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, questioned SBA administrator Isabel Guzman on Wednesday about loans made to affiliates of the abortion giant in direct violation of government policy.
Guzman: “We don’t publicly release that information … .”
Sen. Paul: “So you are in defiance of Congress. You will do what you want, not what Congress wants.”
As Guzman continued to evade Paul’s questioning, he bottom-lined her position.
Sen. Paul: “You are unwilling to comment on it, and you’re unwilling to give us information, so my conclusion is you believe you are above the law.”
Then he sprung the trap.
Sen. Paul: “So to date, no Planned Parenthood has been forgiven, no Planned Parenthood loan has been forgiven?
Guzman: “That’s correct.”
Sen. Paul: “See, you know the information. You’re just not willing to reveal it. So you know all about their information. The record should state you are unwilling to give the information to Congress.”
Then the senator gave her a heads up.
Sen. Paul: “My only conclusion is that we still want the information — we’re here for oversight — that our next step would be to subpoena you.”
