BOSTON (ChurchMilitant.com) – Although the annual March for Life in Washington may not be happening physically this year, a dedicated group of Boston pro-lifers will march for life in just a few days.
The in-person — and socially distanced — March for Life 2021 campaign is set to meet at the historic Boston Common at 1 p.m. on Jan. 29. The event, sponsored by a number of organizations including Pure in Heart America, Students for Life of America and Boston Pro-Life Future, is attracting the participation of many young pro-life activists.
The Boston Pro-life Future group members are encouraging participation. “Miss going to D.C.?” they ask as a teaser. “Then join us for a March for Life in Boston this Friday.”
“Be a voice for the voiceless right here in your city,” they urge.
And in a statement given to Church Militant, Mary Moser, one of the chief organizers of the event, confirmed that nearly every organizer is female and 30-years old or younger.
Moser quoted a young pro-lifer also helping to organize the effort.
“We’re the generation that knows the science,” says C.J. Williams, “and we know that you can’t base one person’s right on an act of violence. To push abortion on me, as a woman, is to tell me I’m worthless if I don’t consent to violence against my child. Now that’s demeaning.”
The march will begin and end with a host of pro-life speakers, including Teresa Larkin, CEO of Your Options Medical, Fernando Limbo of Pure in Heart America and Rita Russo of 40 Days for Life Boston.
The organizers of the Jan. 29 event are persisting despite the setback they suffered this past December. Despite concerted pushback, the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed House Amendment 759 that expanded abortion access well beyond what was already enshrined in state law. The amendment allows:
- Minors to get abortions without parents’ consent
- Babies born alive during an abortion to be denied life-saving medical care
- Unborn babies to be aborted up to nine months for any reason
A video promoting the march references the amendment and proclaims: “We couldn’t stop them from changing the law. But they can’t stop us from changing hearts. Join the March for Life Boston 2021.”

The proclamation underscores the valiant, although ill-fated, efforts of local pro-lifers to stop the amendment from passing. For example, Boston pro-life groups held a “Memorial for the Unborn” on the steps of the statehouse in early December to bring attention to the holocaust the amendment would effect. Participants brought — and some sent — thousands of red roses, representing babies already killed through abortion and those who would be killed as a result of the law’s passage.
The chief organizer of the “Memorial for the Unborn,” Catherine Jenkins, told Church Militant at the time:
In this world, it is easy to despair when we see evil no longer afraid to hide itself. Satan is rearing his ugly head in his attempt to legalize the killing of full term babies. For all who despair, there is hope in Our Immaculate Mother. For she shall crush the ancient serpent’s head, and in the end, her Immaculate Heart will triumph! Let us come together united under her mantle, armed with the Rosary, bearing roses for the world to see. These roses will be a tangible witness of our prayers against infanticide and for the unborn lives lost to abortion.
A recent post on the Boston Pro-life Future Facebook page speaks to the failure of America’s schools in educating students about the true reality of abortion. The page features a message from the author (and role model for many young people) Candace Owens. Owens, who recently became a mother, explained the schools’ failure.
“I remember the first time I learned about abortion in school,” she wrote. “‘It’s a clump of cells until after 3 months’ said my obtuse gym teacher turned health instructor. Fast forward to more than a decade later to my 10-week scan, and I will never forget the feelings I experienced.”
Owens, who is married to a citizen of the U.K. named George Farmer, said she was “amazed that our baby already had arms and legs, hands and feet and was dancing around inside me. I was overcome by an inexorable sense of love followed by the powerful realization that I would do anything and everything to protect my unborn child.”
“But I was mostly astonished that all those years ago in high school, I was lied to,” lamented Owens. “I was brainwashed into believing that it was my body and, therefore, simply my choice.”
