Repentance for supporting Trump — That’s the new clarion call from a dissident Catholic newspaper.

The editorial staff at the National Catholic Reporter (NCR) said Catholics who defend President Trump “have blood on their hands” owing to the deaths during the recent protest on Capitol Hill.

This would include many pro-lifers who have called Trump the most pro-life president in U.S. history.

Father Frank Pavone: “President Trump is the most pro-life president we’ve ever had. I was on his pro-life advisory commission during the first campaign … Such a long list, the pro-life accomplishments, that it’s difficult even for us who do this full-time to keep track of it.”

The op-ed mentions Church Militant by name and accuses conservative Catholics of supporting white nationalism.

The National Catholic Reporter is notorious for supporting contraception in defiance of Church teaching.

The editorial staff accuses the U.S. bishops’ conference of coddling President Trump — this, despite many bishops repeatedly condemning the president and siding with his left-wing adversaries, especially on the border wall and immigration.

This comes after many bishops were swift to condemn Trump and the protesters in Washington, D.C. last week owing to violence in and around the Capitol building.

Bishop Robert McElroy of San Diego slammed the events on Capitol Hill as an “insurrection.”

Objecting to McElroy’s piece, Catholic journalist George Neumayr wrote, “This, of course, is the same bishop who pooh-poohed the gravity of Biden’s support for abortion.”

McElroy defended Biden’s Catholicism for NCR in October, denigrating the mass killing of unborn babies as just one of many policy issues.

Almost a year before that, at a United States Conference of Catholic Bishops meeting, McElroy argued in favor of downplaying the gravity of abortion.

McElroy: “It is not Catholic teaching that abortion is the preeminent issue that we face as a world in Catholic social teaching. It is not!”

These rumblings from Catholic leftists are echoing the secular Left — with many looking for vengeance against Trump supporters.
